World History
World History is a yearlong course that investigates
cultures, countries and civilizations throughout the world, focusing on economic, political, and social developments. Rather than accumulating a series
of facts and dates, the course introduces various methods to study and experience the challenges and successes of different peoples. Students practice
geography and map skills, use timelines, learn vocabulary connected to each culture, and interpret arts and artifacts as means to compose an accurate
appreciation of cultures from the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Students examine the impact of environment and climate on agriculture
and economies, worldviews and customs. They evaluate the extent to which, and in what ways, the interaction of neighboring peoples through trade, war,
and cultural exchange shapes the development of all involved. Through readings, hands-on group projects, field trips to representative cultural sites
and events, as well as discussions, notetaking, homework assignments, and lectures, students build their ability to explain how various civilizations
have evolved. The course enables students to learn from the past and present experience of other cultures to prepare for their future as active members
of the global community.
