Latin I teaches the basic structure of the Latin language. It consists of learning vocabulary, grammatical structure, morphology, listening and speaking skills, writing skills, manipulation exercises, word study, syntax, and cultural background. The text used is Ecce Romani I, and the stories/translations focus on a Roman family and their adventures. Students learn to read of classical authors with confidence, develop awareness of the culture of the Romans, its historic significance, and its contemporary relevance and strengthen skills of deductive and analogous reasoning, interactive learning, comparative analysis, and critical assessment. Students primarily learn vocabulary and are tested on it, as well as being able to translate small passages and being able to write Latin sentences.
