AP Chemistry builds on the foundation from the basic chemistry course, and addresses students who wish to major in science in college or who want to place out of introductory chemistry courses in college. This course is both more mathematically grounded and hands-on than the introductory course. Topics beyond basic structure and reactivity are treated in greater depth, leading to a deeper appreciation for linkages between molecular properties and behavior.

State of the art sensor technology and computer interfaces enable the student to gather meaningful data efficiently, so that more time can be allotted to data analysis and experimental; design. Several areas are treated on an open inquiry approach, where the student poses the question as well as designs the experimental approach to resolve it.

Analytical skills and lateral thinking are stressed as much as content depth, so that the AP Chemistry student is prepared for placement testing in chemistry and positioned to excel at the college level.
